Animated Wor(l)ds

The Animated Wor(l)ds project brings together scholars, writers, artists and creatives who are seeking to cultivate multispecies kinship through transdisciplinary and multisensory research. As a born-digital publication, Animated Wor(l)ds pushes the boundaries of academic publishing and encourages its contributors and readers alike to venture into liminal speculative spaces where care-full attunement between and across species unfolds. In this hybrid talk, Eva Spiegelhofer and Elizabeth Tavella reflect on the developmental process of the project, its radically experimental methodology and the relational ethics of our editorial practice. They explore the connections between building a digital ecology and attuning to the voices of other animals, plants and ecosystems, and confront the underlying anthropocentric logic of past and present animal language research. Animated Wor(l)ds sets out to fundamentally unsettle this logic and promote alternative ways of relating to, thinking about, and entering into conversation with our more-than-human kin.
