About the event
Join in for a captivating film evening featuring the award-winning documentary ‘Eyes of the Orangutan’ by internationally renowned environmental photojournalist and filmmaker Aaron Gekoski, in collaboration with Terra Mater Studios. Over the course of four years, Gekoski, director Chris Scarffe, and cameraman Will Foster-Grundy delved deep into the dark world of the illegal wildlife trade and orangutan tourism.
The film reveals how millions of people each year visit zoos, wildlife parks, and so-called sanctuaries to see these “cute” and “charismatic” animals — fueling a multi-billion dollar industry at the expense of the orangutans. Only a few lucky ones manage to escape this cruelty. When possible, they are rehabilitated by the dedicated team of the world’s largest primate rescue organization, the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation in Indonesia. But can they ever truly return to freedom?
