CFP - Animals in Business Ethics: Managing Multispecies Relations in Organizations

We are now accepting chapter proposals for the edited handbook “Animals in Business Ethics: Managing Multispecies Relations in Organizations” set to be published with Palgrave Macmillan in the Management and Organization Studies branch.

The aim of the book is to offer real-world examples and case studies that grapple with how businesses engage with animals. It seeks to explore how animals are included in organizational frameworks, corporate social responsibility strategies, and international business networks. It also wants to address how animals are made to work within changing socio-technological environments and what such practices tell us about business ethics. The emergence of lab-grown meat, artificial intelligence, and automation raise pressing ethical questions about how animals are included within business operations and frameworks that guide responsible practice. The use of animals in agriculture, tourism, entertainment, and research industries raise ethical questions regarding how companies navigate tensions between profit motives and animal welfare. By bringing together real-world examples and theoretical perspectives, this book aims to shed light on the evolving relationship between business ethics and the inclusion of animals in corporate practices.

With this in mind, we are seeking chapter proposals (approximately 300 words) that offer conceptual and/or empirical insights into the intersection of animals and business ethics. We invite chapters that examine the role of animals in corporate social responsibility and sustainability strategies, as well as the impact of business decisions on animals’ well-being. We are particularly interested in what responsibilities companies assume when it comes to multispecies interactions and cases that showcase how business might foster multispecies-friendly workplaces or promote interspecies solidarity. Contributions from a wide variety of industries, scales, and contexts are welcome and so too are those that also discuss how technological advancements reshape human-animal-business relationships.
