
Sona Kalafusova
Animal Law Scholar
Sona holds a BSc in Law from Matthias Bel University, Slovakia, with specialized training in animal law from the University of Johannesburg and the University of Antwerp. Her research focuses on the legal status of animals in sanctuaries, AI-mediated communication and legal standing, and animal welfare policy frameworks. With over a decade of advocacy experience spanning campaign coordination, investigations, and organizational leadership, Sona has contributed to legislative victories including Slovakia's circus animal ban. She currently serves as Regional Outreach Manager for Eurasia at the World Moot on International Law and Animal Rights and conducts policy research with TransFARMation Austria, working to advance legal protections for animals through research and advocacy.
