On the 30th and 31st of January 2025, running in tandem with the "Hello Nature" exhibition in Nuremburg, scholars and activists will come together to ask the question "How do we want to live together?" Among the list of speaker's is VAS member Judith Benz-Schwarzburg, a Senior Researcher at the Messerli Research Institute in Vienna who works at the intersection of animal cognition and animal ethics
At this all-German-speaking event, Judith will be in the session "Rights in Theory and Practice" with a presentation roughly translated as "More than just capable of suffering: What empathetic rats and caring cows tell us about the limits of our animal welfare efforts." The "Hello Nature" exhibition shows how humans have historically used and impacted nature asking if there is a way in which humans can co-exist with nature. With artefacts dating back to the Stone Age, the exhibition asks what lessons history might be able to teach humans about co-existing more peacefully with nature. The Exhibition will be on at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremburg until the 2nd of March 2025. Find out more details on the Germanisches Nationalmuseum website.
